EU railway legislation: options for the Netherlands

Didier van de Velde was invited to give a guest lecture on 22 June 2018 at a series organised by the Dutch economic magazine ESB.

He talked about:

  • The history of the EU railway legislation
  • The resulting arrangements in European countries, and their diversity
  • Interesting new developments (such as open access, competitive tendering and the re-integration debate)
  • Challenges and options for the Dutch railway sector

The series, titledDe toekomst op de rails (“The future on the rails”), is organised by ESB to disseminate knowledge on issues linked to the future of mobility by rail and the future of the governance of the railway sector. The academic responsibility of the series is in the hand of professor Maarten Janssen (professor of microeconomics, University of Vienna) and professor Bert van Wee (professor of transport policy, Delft University of Technology).
