Bike-Train-Bike project completed with conference

On March 7th participants from all over the world gathered in Utrecht for the final Conference of the BiTiBi (Bike-Train-Bike) project; an EU-funded, three year project with eight pilot partners to promote the intermodal use of bicycles and public transit in urban commuting throughout Europe.

In his presentation Eduard Röntgen reflected upon the results from the pilots and concluded how these results add up to the BiTiBi-guidelines. These guidelines have been developed by inno-V and are soon to be downloaded on the BiTiBi-website.

The last three years inno-V shared, together with NS (the Dutch Railways), Dutch best practices about the promotion of the combination of bicycle and public transport with pilot partners from Belgium (Gent and Liège), Spain (Barcelona), Italy (Milan) and the UK (Liverpool). In Liverpool inno-V supported Merseyrail with the further development of the Bike&Go concept and bike parking facilities at train stations. At several occasions during these three years the lessons learned were presented to different groups, for example in Slovenia and Brussels.

The results of the pilot projects are successful and promising: more bike shared scheme users everywhere, more bicycle parking members, attractive marketing actions to promote cycling and create communities of users. Bike to the Station! Bike from the Station!
